First defeat for the master under Nagelsmann

FC Bayern suffered their first defeat under coach Julian Nagelsmann. After nine competitive game successes under their new coach, the Munich team lost 1: 2 (1: 1) against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga at home on Sunday. Only Leon Goretzka managed to overcome the outstanding guest keeper Kevin Trapp (29th minute). Martin Hinteregger (32nd) punished a defensive mistake in Munich almost immediately with the equalizer. Filip Kostic (83rd) let the guests know about their first league win of the season under coach Oliver Glasner and their first success in Munich for 21 years.

Four days after the 5-0 goal festival in the Champions League against Dynamo Kiev, Munich did not get going as usual after a very lively start this time in front of 25,000 spectators in the Allianz Arena. This was not only due to Trapp, who is not part of the current DFB squad, but also to their own usury and defensive negligence. After the 1-1 draw at the start of the season in Gladbach, it was the first real damper of Nagelsmann’s still young tenure.

His offensively very variable stars initially presented the five-man chain of guests with great difficulties. However, the Bayern attacking early on lacked the precision and determination to overcome Trapp more often.

In the 0: 1 by Goretzka’s first goal of the season, Trapp was powerless. Serge Gnabry had put Hinteregger under intense pressure, after his loss of the ball to Goretzka, the ball came back to Goretzka via Thomas Müller and Robert Lewandowski, who finished with a deliberate direct shot. A minute later it would have been 2-0 if Leroy Sané had crossed Gnabry. Sané tried it alone from a good position – and failed on Trapp.

The response from Hessen, who celebrated their maiden victory in the Europa League 1-0 in Antwerp under coach Oliver Glasner, was impressive. After a corner from Filip Kostic, Bayern gave Hinteregger, who had a strong header, a surprising amount of creative freedom, which the Austrian took advantage of with his head against the hesitant Dayot Upamecano. Once again Hinteregger, who scored two goals and one own goal at the Allianz Arena at 2: 5 in his Eintracht in May 2020.

Bayern pushed for 2-1 and pulled their hair after Gnabry hit the post (44th). But they could also have gone into the break with a deficit after Almamy Touré had duped the strong offensive Alphonso Davies and failed because of the brilliant parrying Manuel Neuer (42.). In stoppage time, a cross from Kostic rolled through the Munich penalty area – his teammates could not get to the ball.

Bayern continued to dominate the action after the break, Eintracht lurked against the ensemble around the very attentive newcomer on the counterattack. Trapp parried a Lewandowski header with a foot defense from very close range to everyone’s surprise (56th), but he had less trouble with Sané’s long-range shot (57th). Trapp then saved more spectacularly against Gnabry (64th) and again against Sané (66th). Kostic then turned the game on its head after a counterattack – and caused a frustrated Munich team. In the last few minutes it was Trapp again who secured the surprise victory. (dpa)
