(ANSA) – PARIS, 02 JUN – The number 8 tennis player in the world, Casper Ruud, became the first Norwegian to qualify for the semifinals in a Grand Slam by beating young Danish talent Holger Rune 6-1, 4-6, 7- 6 (7/2), 6-3 in an all-Scandinavian quarter-final at Roland-Garros.
He will face the Croatian Marin Cilic, ex N.3 of the world today 23 / o and winner of the US Open 2014, for the place in the final.
Prior to this 2022 edition of Roland-Garros, Ruud had never passed the round of 16 in a Grand Slam. The 23-year-old from Oslo, former junior world number 1, is an assiduous tennis rookie in his country: the first Norwegian to find a place in the top 10 (in April), the first to win an ATP title, the first to reach a Masters 1000 final (Miami in early April) and be the first to qualify for the end-of-season Masters (2021).
