Tennis: Paris; Schiavone-Pennetta win double ‘Legends’

(ANSA) – PARIS, 04 JUN – There is glory also for Italy on the fields of Roland Garros. Flavia Pennetta and Francesca Schiavone, the only Italians to have won a Grand Slam in singles, return to the field in doubles and win in Paris in the tournament of legends, an invitation-only double, for men and women, with eight couples at the start.

In the final, the blue defeated the Argentines Gabriela Sabatini and Gisela Dulko 1-6 7-6 10-6.

The two former blues took a risk in the second set, when Dulko missed a smash at 6-5 that could have ended the game. Moreover, Dulko remained one of Flavia’s best friends, who wanted her to be her best man at her wedding with the former Real Madrid and Roma player Fernando Gago. With her, Pennetta celebrated two particularly significant triumphs in doubles, at the 2010 Wta Finals in Doha and at the 2011 Australian Open. Thanks to this success, on February 28 of that year, Pennetta rose to number 1 in the world, the first Italian to make it. (HANDLE).
