Taekwondo: Grand Prix, bronze for Smiraglia in the +67 kg

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 04 – The first medal for Italy arrives at the taekwondo Grand Prix at the Foro Italico: to win it is the 26 year old Maristella Smiraglia, pin up from Puglia (in the past winner of beauty contests) who stopped in semifinal against the South Korean Dabin Lee and who still guarantees the bronze in the +67 kg category.

Smiraglia – who overtook the Brazilian Gabriele Siqueira in the round of 32, the Turkish Nafia Kus in the round of 16 and the Uzbek Svetlana Osipova in the quarter-finals – surrenders in two rounds against the very strong Asian; the first round is dominated by Lee, who finishes 6-1, but the second sees the blue go very close to the feat, supported by the roar of the Pietrangeli. The girl from Foggia, who competes for the Carabinieri, also goes to 4-2 but then suffers the very precise kicks of Lee, winning 8-6.

For the blue it is still a great satisfaction after the silver won at the last Swedish Open. (HANDLE).
