Among Nadal’s thanks for his team and family: “It is extraordinary what is happening this year – the tennis player’s words – when I was injured you have always encouraged me, without you I would have retired for years. It’s hard to describe my feelings right now, I never thought I’d be here at 36, to be competitive and play the final on the most important pitch of my career. “
Nadal congratulated Casper Ruud, his opponent today in the final: “It was a pleasure to play with you – he said – I congratulate you on the start of your career, these two weeks are an important step forward.
