Football: Gattuso is the new coach of Valencia

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 09 – Gennaro Gattuso will be the new coach of Valencia for the next two seasons, the Spanish club announced with a video on its website. The former Milan and Napoli coach takes over from José Bordalas, called in May 2021 and sacked a few days ago.

World champion in 2006, Gattuso (44) stopped playing in 2010. He later coached Sion in Switzerland, then Palermo, Crete (Greece) and Pisa, before spending two seasons on the benches of ‘his’ Milan and of Napoli, with whom he won the Italian Cup in 2020. In the summer of 2021 he was signed by Fiorentina, but a few weeks later he left the club due to differences over the transfer campaign.

“I met a respected Valencia. A team, fans, all linked by heart. For me football is passion, respect for the game and love for the ball” recalls Gattuso in the presentation video broadcast by the club on social media. And among the images there is also that of Claudio Ranieri, who was on the Valencia bench on two occasions.

Gattuso will be the tenth coach to lead the Valencia team since Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim took over the leadership of the club in August 2014. (ANSA).
