(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 12 – Toyota took its fifth consecutive victory in the hypercar category at the end of the 90th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, continuing its undisputed domination on the legendary Sarthe circuit.
Toyota No.8 – driven by New Zealander Brendan Hartley, Swiss Sébastien Buemi and Japanese Ryo Hirakawa – returned to success after the hat-trick of 2018, 2019 and 2020 (with other drivers). Second was the sister car No.7, which won last year. After two years of health restrictions caused by Covid, the public has returned to follow the prestigious endurance car race.
Next year, for the centenary edition, the return of the big names in motorsport is expected: Ferrari, Porsche, Audi, BMW, Cadillac are expected. All will start in Le Mans for the centenary of the race, in June 2023.
It was also the fourth victory at Le Mans for Buemi, 33, who also raced in F1 and who has been one of the main drivers, since its creation, of the Formula Electric championship (champion in 2016). (HANDLE).
