Exhibitions: ‘They don’t take us anymore’, 40 years from the Mundial in figurine

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 17 – The Modena Figurine Museum celebrates the 40th anniversary of the 1982 World Cup in Spain with an exhibition that can be visited from tomorrow to 18 September. The transition from the 70s to the 80s marks an important turning point in the world of the figurine, whose contents are turning with increasing frequency to sport – especially football, connected to the card in an inseparable combination – and to the television medium.

Forty years after the World Cup which saw Italy win in a memorable match on 11 July 1982, we could not miss an in-depth analysis of an event that has remained imprinted in the collective memory also thanks to stickers that have become cult. That World Cup represents a sort of ‘football wunderkammer’, a gallery of extraordinary players who have entered the imagination of fans, but not only. The exhibition traces the stages of the Italian national team starting from the qualifications, passing through the debut in Vigo. And then the memorable matches against Argentina and Brazil and the goals that lead Italy to the final against Germany at the Santiago Bernabéu. From that day everyone remembers Sandro Pertini, with his “They don’t take us anymore”, exclaimed in the 81 ‘minute of the Madrid final and King Juan Carlos in the stands, the goals of Tardelli, Rossi and Altobelli and that triple “Champions of the World!” repeated by Nando Martellini, but also the pipe and the happy eyes of Enzo Bearzot who was the architect of that victory. In Italy a party explodes which is the symbol of the restart of a country.

Images destined to remain follow one another, like Zoff’s outstretched hands holding up the cup and the game of cards on the return flight. On display, a section is dedicated to the most iconic players: it is a World Cup of great goalkeepers and wonderful playmakers, players who have linked their stories and their vision of the world to inspiration, technical skills and class. A final section is aimed at the cities and stadiums of the Spanish Mundial. (HANDLE).
