(ANSA) – ROME, JUNE 17 – Poker of golds and poker of records for Simone Barlaam at the Paralympic Swimming World Championships underway in Portugal. The blue won the fourth gold in the 100 backstroke, class S9, and established the new world record in the category by dropping under one minute and with a time of 59’72.
The athlete of the Fiamme Oro and of the Polha Varese dominated both pools, with a fluid swim. At the Tokyo Games he had closed the 100 backstroke in fifth place (1’02 “92) but now he has no rivals in his category. Barlaam in these world championships has already won gold in the 100 butterfly with championship record, in the 100 freestyle with WR, in the 400 freestyle with the European record.
Tomorrow, on the final day of these world championships that see Italy first in the medal table ahead of the United States and Brazil, Barlaam will have to face the final of the 50 freestyle, S9, a race where he won gold in Tokyo (ANSA).
