Tadej Pogacar returns to success and does so on his home roads, winning the third stage of the Tour of Slovenia, from Zalec to Celje, 144.6 kilometers long. With today’s success, Pogacar (with his eighth success of the season) jumped to the lead of the general classification with 7 ” over the Polish Rafal Majka.
As happened on Wednesday, on the occasion of the victory of the Pole, the winner of two Tour de France attacked from afar, starting from the group together with his teammate from UAE Emirates when there were 23 km to the finish: the two flew on the ascent of Svetina, gaining a good margin on the first pursuers. After having checked the descent, without risking too much, Pogacar and Majka were joined by Nicola Conci just before the last bump, the ascent towards the finish line in Celje. The Slovenian climber immediately brought a decisive thrust that forced Conci to surrender: victory for Pogacar, with 11 “over his mate Majka and 14” over Conci.
“As a team we worked perfectly to keep the situation under control. On the climb, Rafal and I decided to attack together and it was enough to create a margin on the pursuers – the words of Pogacar -. The descent was very slippery, too. due to a bit of rain; I knew it would be difficult to ride it hard, Conci was good at recovering and at that point we knew we had to move intelligently on the last bump. It went well. “
