(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 18 – The Finals of the Italian Olympic Weightlifting Championships will be held in Milan this weekend. The location will be the Crowne Plaza in San Donato Milanese, which for two days will be transformed into the tricolor stage of Italian weightlifting. The best 56 athletes and the best 52 athletes of all ages will battle for the title of best weightlifter of 2022. It will also be an opportunity to applaud in person the athletes who have won medals and titles during the last European Senior Championships and during the Youth World Championships, still underway in Leòn, Mexico: on Saturday at 18.00 Nino Pizzolato will compete who, just a few days ago, won his third consecutive European title in Tirana, at the same time achieving two World Records, a performance that is not it had been happening for exactly 100 years in our discipline; on Saturday at 16.00 Giulia Imperio, Senior European Champion in Albania at the age of 20, will be on the platform; and again, among others, Mirko Zanni, Cristiano Ficco, Iacopo Falsinotti, silver at the Youth World Cup and Lucrezia Magistris.
An important moment of celebration is scheduled for tomorrow at 10.00, an occasion that will give the world of Italian weightlifting a chance to applaud its Champions closely: in fact, President Antonio Urso will personally award Nino Pizzolato and Giulia Imperio, for the successes at the recent European Championships, and with them also Mirko Zanni and Giorgia Bordignon, respectively bronze and silver in Tokyo 2020; Sergio Massidda also on stage, who has three world titles between Youth and Juniores to his credit and who, due to the pandemic, has not yet had the bath of applause that he deserves. It will be possible to attend the Absolute Italian Olympic Weightlifting Championships in person, access to the Crowne Plaza is free. For those who have no way of being present, the Italian Weightlifting Federation has organized a streaming of the highest level and quality for the occasion, to give all fans the opportunity to closely follow their Champions and the discipline of the heart!
