Tennis: Sinner chooses Cahill, the coach of the n.1

The goal is to become number one and for this you need a coach of champions. Jannick Sinner had long been looking for a technician capable of making him make the further leap in quality and after the names circulated (from John McEnroe to Boris Becker) now the guide chosen is there: it is Darren Cahill, Australian from Adelaide, 56, with him Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi have become number one.
Cahill was spotted on the meadows of Eastburn, a stage of the ATP circuit that precedes Wimbledon, together with the blue staff: he is the former player, a good doubles player (he reached n.10 in the ranking and at the final of the Australian Open in 1989 together to Mark Kratzmann), the expert guide Sinner was looking for. Because Cahill is as a coach who has achieved the greatest results: as soon as he left the circuit he joined an emerging Hewitt on behalf of the Australian federation and in three years of work led him to win the Us Open 2001 and become the youngest n.1 of the history at 20 years and 8 months.
With that chapter closed at the end of the season (due to differences of opinion with Hewitt’s parents), Cahill is contacted by Agassi, then 32, who still wants to look for the top. He is # 5 in the world and has already won 7 Grand Slams. The immediate results are tournament wins in Miami and Rome. And in January 2003 the success at the Australian Open which, with the subsequent titles in San Jose, Miami and Houston would have brought the champion from Las Vegas back to the number 1 in the world at the age of 33. In recent years she has linked her name to her Simona Halep, taking her to the top of the standings in 2017 and in 2018 to conquer her first Grand Slam, at Roland Garros.
His collaboration with Sinner starts on grass but is not limited to this period. The idea of the Sinner team is to look with him in the medium-long term, towards the absolute goal, the top of world tennis. Sinner restarts from Eastbourne in recovery: the knee injury has passed and now Wimbledon is in the sights, on the way to the highest goals.
