World Swimming Championships: Paltrinieri gold in 1500 with European record

Gold of Gregorio Paltrinieri in the 1500sl in Budapest on the last day of the World Swimming Championships, with European primacy. After the defeat in the 800, the blue Olympian returned to the top step of the podium in the longest distance after the 2015 and 2017 gold medals and the bronze in 2019.Paltrinieri dominated the race from the first pool and finished with a time of 14 : 32.80, new European record. The others are far behind, the American Robert Finke (14: 36.70) and the German Florian Wellbrock (14: 36.94). “The other day I was super disappointed, but I know I’m there. I wanted to prove it, go fast and I think I made it.” Gregorio Paltrinieri said this to Rai Sport’s microphones after the gold with a European record in the 1500s. Beaten in the 800s, the blue reaffirmed his desire for redemption. “I love to swim and I wouldn’t do anything else, but when you lose you wonder where you are wrong – he added – Today I said to myself ‘give it all, rather die in the pool’, and I proved to be there”.

Italy won the gold medal in the mixed 4×100 relay for men at the Duna Arena, on the last day of the World Swimming Championships. Thomas Ceccon, Nicolò Martinenghi, Federico Burdisso and Alessandro Miressi beat the United States, silver, and Great Britain, bronze. Italy also set the new European record, with a time of 3: 27.51, ahead of the United States by 28 cents and the British by over three seconds. The gold of the relay, the last men’s race of the program, is Italy’s tenth medal in this edition of the World Cup

Benedetta Pilato, already gold of the 100 breaststroke, won the silver medal in the final of the 50 breaststroke women. The Taranto was beaten by the Lithuanian Ruta Meilutyte. The bronze was won by the South African Lara Van Niekerk.

The blue Thomas Ceccon, already gold of the 100 backstroke with the world record, won the bronze medal in the 50 backstroke. The race was won by the American Armstrong, the silver went to the Polish Masiuk. Ceccon had finished in fourth place but the disqualification of the winner, the American Ress, made him get on the podium.
