(ANSA) – EUGENE, JUN 26 – Sydney McLaughlin, reigning Olympic champion, has improved her world record in the 400 hurdles in Eugene (Oregon) with a time of 51 “41, which makes her more than ever the great favorite of the next World Cup: Her rival Dalilah Muhammad, who beat her at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, is absent from the US Trials with a hamstring injury.
McLaughlin, 22, ran five cents under the temp set in last year’s Tokyo Games final, which saw her win gold in front of Muhammad. The latter, as reigning champion, will be able to defend her chances on the same track as Hayward Field, as well as Britton Wilson (53 “08) and Shamier Little (53” 92), second and third, well behind McLaughlin. “Every time I come here, I feel something incredible is going to happen,” said the heroine of the day, who broke the world record for the first time last year in Eugene.
