Sailing: Beau Geste, Essentia 44 and Sugar 3 win in the Orc World Championship

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 30 – Beau Geste, Essentia 44 and Sugar 3 won their respective Classes at the Orc Offshore Sailing World Championship which ended today with two ‘stick’ races, for a total of seven overall evidence. The competition was organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, in collaboration with the Offshore Racing Congress. A light easterly wind, which rose from 6 knots to 10, allowed the Race Committees on both courses to complete the event in the best possible way. With a first and a second place of the day, the Tp52 Beau Geste from Hong Kong, armed by Karl Kwok, became world champion in Class A, repeating the success of 2018. World runner-up is From Now On, the Argentine’s Swan 45 Fernando Chain who, after winning the offshore regatta on his debut, defended himself well from the comeback of Beau Geste, racing in the sticks with consistent results. In Class B the Grand Soleil 44 Essentia of the Romanian Catalin Trandafir is reconfirmed as world champion with 3 points ahead of Andrea Rossi’s ClubSwan 42 Mela which relegates another CS42, the Estonian Katariina II to third place. The victory among the Corinthians (non-professionals) went to Sideracordis, the president of the Venice Sailing Company, Pier Vettor Grimani, who circumnavigated Italy to participate in the World Championship with an amateur crew of friends and associates. Sugar 3, Ott Kikkas’ Estonian boat, won the C Class with an advance test and a series of 5 first places except for the second in the long offshore race. Sugar 3 did not take part in the last race, discarding that score because she is now mathematically world champion. (HANDLE).
