(ANSA) – SAN VENDEMIANO, 04 JUL – Great jumps in the International Meeting ATL-Etica-Memorial Ivo Merlo which, on Wednesday, will inaugurate the renewed San Vendemiano track. The event was presented in the council chamber of the Municipality of San Vendemiano.

Larissa Iapichino, the queen of the blue long jump, will return to compete in the Marca, two years after the Vittorio Veneto meeting. Just over a week ago, in Rieti, she won the fourth Italian title overall (third consecutive outdoor), jumping 6.64 and proving to be in growing condition. Double daughter of art (mother Fiona May was twice world champion in long jump; father Gianni, who has been training her since June 2021, was the Italian pole vault record holder), Larissa Iapichino in 2020 jumped 6.80 at the meeting in Savona, becoming the second Italian long-distance player ever. In February 2021 her Florentine girl improved up to 6.91 in Ancona, world record under 20 indoors, equaling the absolute national indoor record held by her mother. On the platform in San Vendemiano you will find the Australian Samantha Dale, who improved this year to 6.72, and several veterans from the tricolor race: from Cecilia Naldi, third in Rieti, to Carol Zangobbo, to Veronica Crida.

The triplist Andy Diaz Hernandez, another of the stars of the Memorial Ivo Merlo, also gave a show at the Absolutes of Rieti. Engaged outside the standings in the tricolor race, the Cuban champion landed at 17.68, adding three centimeters to the personal best achieved on June 18 in the Parisian stage of the Diamond League and strengthening the second position in the world rankings of the year. Twenty-six years old, from Havana, three times national champion (2017, 2019 and 2020), Diaz Hernandez was world finalist in London in 2017 and bronze at the Pan American Games in 2019. Since last winter he has been based in Italy.

He trains at the sports center of the Guardia di Finanza in Castelporziano, followed by the 2012 Olympic bronze medalist, Fabrizio Donato (ANSA).
