(ANSA) – MILAN, 05 JUL – Exactly 40 years have passed since the unforgettable ‘Italy-Brazil 3-2’ of 5 July 1982 and the Lombardy Region has decided to remember the legendary challenge of the World Cup held in Spain by delivering a symbolic recognition to the former defender of Milan and Inter (and of course the national team) Fulvio Collovati. “The representative of a world champion national team that has written the history of Italian football – commented the Lombard governor Attilio Fontana – and that has entered the hearts of all Italians even and above all after that victory over Brazil”.
In receiving the Collovati award he explained that “that game consecrated us world champions and from that moment we were aware of being able to reach that goal”.
Thinking back to Paolo Rossi, the hero of that afternoon with a historic hat-trick, Collovati, quite excited, described him as “a sunny boy, always smiling. For those who have been part of that team, it is as if he were still with us”.
Mister Bearzot and the whole group “believed in him. And he – concluded Collovati – was the architect of our rebirth”. (HANDLE).
