Wimbledon: Russian president Federtennis rejoices for Rybakina

(ANSA-AFP) – MOSCOW, 09 JUL – The president of the Russian tennis Federation Shamil Tarpischev congratulated Elena Rybakina on her victory in the Wimbledon women’s tournament, describing the player as a pure “product” of Russian tennis.

Born in Moscow 23 years ago, Rybakina took Kazakh nationality in 2018. And so she was able to participate in the British tournament, unlike Russian and Belarusian players, who were excluded due to the invasion of Ukraine. In today’s final, Rybakina beat Tunisian Ons Jabeur, world number two.

“That’s fantastic! Well done Rybakina! We won the Wimbledon tournament”, rejoiced Tarpischev, who already on the occasion of the success in the semifinals had said: “” It is good that Elena qualified for the Wimbledon final, she is a product of the Russian tennis “.

Rybakina, trained in Moscow and Russia, to become the third player in the world in juniors, has always said that she left the country for Kazakhstan to be more supported from a sporting and financial point of view. Other Russian players have followed her example in recent years, such as Yulia Putintseva, who reached the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros in 2016 and 2018 and Alexander Bublik, winner of the ATP 250 tournament in Montpellier this year.
