(ANSA) – LONDON, JUL 10 – Agreement reached between Chelsea and Manchester City for the transfer of Raheem Sterling winger to London. According to the English press, the 27-year-old international is expected to sign a five-year contract with the option for a sixth. He would become the first reinforcement of the Todd Boehly era, the American businessman who bought Chelsea with a consortium of investors at the end of May.
According to Sky, the London club will pay £ 47.5m (€ 56.1m) in order to field Sterling, while the BBC announced a transfer of £ 50m (€ 59.1m) plus bonuses. Chelsea hope to be able to use it already in the pre-season tour in the United States.
A key player in Pep Guardiola’s early years at City, Sterling scored 131 goals in 337 appearances for Manchester City, with whom he won 4 English league titles. But his starting spot was increasingly threatened with the signing of Jack Grealish last year, as well as the emergence of Phil Foden, the fruit of the club’s youth academy. In addition, City has already strengthened up front with the arrivals of Norwegian Erling Haaland and Argentine Julian Alvarez. (HANDLE).
