(ANSA) – SHEFFIELD, 10 JUL – Dutch midfielder Jackie Groenen, who played yesterday against Sweden (1-1) at the women’s European football championship, tested positive at Covid, announced her federation today. The Manchester United player will remain in solitary confinement “in the next few days” and she will be able to return to the Netherlands without symptoms and after a negative test, according to the Twitter account of the European champions.
Several cases of Covid positivity have been announced since the start of the tournament, Wednesday, in England. The English Arsenal defender, Lotte Wubben-Moy, substitute in the opening match against Austria (1-0), was forced to temporarily leave the retreat, already hit by a positive test in the preparation phase, concerning the striker Ellen Bianco. For the same reason, Italy will have to do without midfielder Valentina Cernoia, tonight, against France.
During the women’s Euro pre-match tests are not mandatory. A team affected by multiple Covid cases must put the affected people in isolation. No postponement is allowed as long as at least 13 players are available, including a goalkeeper. (HANDLE).
