Tennis: Djokovic wins at Wimbledon, but loses ATP points

(ANSA-AFP) – PARIS, 11 JUL – Novak Djokovic, despite his seventh career success in the Wimbledon tournament (his 21st Grand Slam), has lost four positions in the ATP ranking published today, dropping to seventh place. Russian Daniil Medvedev remains number 1 in the world, despite not being allowed to play on London grass, following the decision of the tournament organizers to exclude all Russian and Belarusian tennis players due to the invasion of Ukraine. Contrary to this decision, the ATP has decided not to distribute points in the world ranking and therefore Djokovic has lost the 2,000 points that he had instead won last year after the victory in the final over Matteo Berrettini. Even the blue, stopped this year by Covid-19, has lost four places and is now 15 / o. As for Nick Kyrgios, beaten by Djokovic yesterday in the final, he lost five positions, dropping to 45th place. The main beneficiary of the non-distribution of points at Wimbledon was Rafael Nadal, who lost the semi-final due to an abdominal tear: the Spaniard earned a place and is third.

This is the new Atp ranking: 1. Daniil Medvedev (Rus) 7.775 2. Alexander Zverev (Ger) 6.850 3. Rafael Nadal (Spa) 6.165 (+1) 4. Stefanos Tsitsipas (Gre) 5.150 (+1) 5. Casper Ruud (Nor) 5.050 (+1) 6.
