Athletics: independent audit on Russia after doping cases

(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 15 – The World Athletics Council – meeting in Eugene, Oregon (USA), on the eve of the World Cup – has decided that, from the next edition, the relay world championships scheduled for 2024 qualify for the Paris Olympics. The edition in question does not yet have a seat, and World Athletics, the world federation, has opened the window for applications to host the event to coincide with the announcement. Fourteen of the 16 places in the relay races for the 2024 Paris Games will be defined by the event, with the remaining two teams to be identified on the list during the qualifying window.

The Council also proposed an independent hearing of the trials and progress of the Russian Athletics Federation with respect to the reintegration plan following allegations of doping manipulation. The World Task Force will continue to oversee and monitor the Russian Federation’s implementation of the reintegration plan and will report on the outcome of the hearing at the next Council meeting, scheduled for November. The ultimatum to the Russian Federation will expire in December. (HANDLE).
