Athletics World Championships, Jacobs forfeit to the 100-meter semifinals

Forfeit of Marcell Jacobs at the semifinals of the 100 meters of the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, due to a thigh injury. This was announced by the Italian athletics federation a few hours before the start of the race.

“The athlete Marcell Jacobs – reads the note from Fidal – during yesterday’s 100m battery, accused contracture of the adductor of the right thigh which however allowed him to finish the performance. Immediately after the race it was set up a therapy protocol that led to immediate muscle decontraction. In the clinical tests conducted this morning – continues the note – the muscle contracture, albeit to a lesser extent, remained present, so it was decided to perform ultrasound examinations in static and in dynamics to evaluate the reaction of the muscular component. The examination did not show muscle lesions, but showed a contraction of a zone of loco-regional blood stasis affecting the great adductor of the right thigh. This being a clinical picture that can put at risk muscle integrity and lead to injuries – concludes the press release – it was decided not to allow participation in tonight’s race “.
