Primoz Roglic was 21st overall, more than 30 minutes behind Vingegaard.
The runner remains “proud of his contribution to the classification”
Roglic was hit in the shoulder and lower back in his fall during the cobblestone stage leading to Arenberg, in the 5th stage of the Tour. Defeated on the eve of the arrival by his compatriot Tadej Pogacar in the Tour de France 2020 and second in the final classification, Roglic had approached the 2022 edition with the status of co-leader in the Jumbo team, with Vingegaard.
“I am proud of my contribution to the current standings and I am confident that the team will achieve our yellow and green ambitions. Thank you all for your great support,” Roglic also said.
The 32-year-old Slovenian won Paris-Nice and Dauphiné this year, two one-week stage races. He is also the reigning three-time Vuelta winner who should now be his next big goal, from August 19.
His departure leaves the Jumbo team with seven riders.
