(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 19 – On the Italian night at the World Athletics Championships underway in Eugene, Oregon, Filippo Tortu arrives in the semifinal of the 200 meters, running the first round in 20.18 (+1.0), while Fausto Desalu must surrender with a 20.63 (+0.5) which is not enough to get back on track tomorrow.
In the absence of De Grasse and the Japanese Koike, who did not line up at the start, Tortu reached the final straight safely, crossing the finish line in 20.18, with a clear margin on the second, Gorra (20.44). Desalu, on the contrary, runs well for the first 120 meters, but on the straight he gradually ends up extinguishing, first undergoing the comeback for third place by the Ugandan Orogot, and then also ending up losing contact from the front (the Dominican Ogando imposes himself in 20.01). With 20.63 he is eliminated.
As expected, the Americans prevailed in the 200 meters. Nohah Lyles leads the semi-final qualifying row with 19.98 (-0.3), followed by Erryon Knighton (20.01).
Fred Kerley, world champion of the 100, marks a final 20.17 (+0.4). He tortu is just behind Kerley, ninth overall. He is back on track tomorrow, once again in the Italian night: 3:50 in the morning. (HANDLE).
