Fencing World Championships: Italian swordsmen and sabers in the semifinals

(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 21 – After the three medals won in the individual tests – a bronze with the swordsman Rossella Fiamingo and the silver with the foil players Arianna Errigo and Tommaso Marini -, Italy is in the running for the World Fencing Championships in Cairo for a podium place in the women’s sword and men’s saber team competitions, with both teams in the semifinals.

Rossella Fiamingo, Mara Navarria, Alberta Santuccio and Federica Isola today beat Switzerland 45-33 in the quarterfinals and face France for a place in the final. Luca Curatoli, Luigi Samele, Pietro Torre and Michele Gallo beat the hosts of Egypt 45-33 and will face Hungary.

The preliminary rounds of female foil and male sword have also begun. Arianna Errigo, Alice Volpi, Francesca Palumbo and Martina Favaretto have passed the scoreboard of 16 and are in the quarterfinals after the 45-19 victory over Austria.
