Tennis: Binaghi, in Cagliari tournament with the strongest in the world

(ANSA) – CAGLIARI, 22 JUL – An international tennis tournament in Cagliari with some of the strongest players in the world.

This was announced this morning by the president of the Italian tennis federation Angelo Binaghi during the presentation in Cagliari of the second category Italian tennis championships.

“We were about to have an ATP in Cagliari in recent months – said Binaghi – due to the waiver due to the lockdown of the Chinese tournaments. The ATP, however, required us to have fast surfaces that were not available to us. We could have changed the Cagliari facilities to the occurrence but, also considering that Sardinia hosted Italy-France women, we are planning a medium and long term discussion. With the revision of the new calendar there are opportunities to host a tournament of a level equivalent to the ATP 250. What we have hosted was linked to a one-year license. We will talk about it with the club and the Region, I have already talked about it in the Federal Council: we want to bring to Cagliari the biggest tournament ever seen in these parts. With the presence of some of the strongest players in the world “.

Perspectives also for a new facility that could relaunch Cagliari in a Davis dimension: “New sports hall in Cagliari? There is also the push of other disciplines such as volleyball and table tennis: we are talking about a facility that needs a active involvement of the Region for an intervention suited to national relevance as well.

We would like it to be a facility that is not already born too small and that is consistent with the growth objectives of our and other sports with the involvement of congresses and shows. I am optimistic: we are working in the right direction “, concluded Binaghi. (ANSA).
