The Premier League chooses a woman as president

(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 26 – The Premier League from 2023 will have a woman as its guide, for the first time in its history. The twenty clubs of the richest and most important football league in the world have unanimously voted 57-year-old Alison Brittain, a manager with experience in the banking sector and most recently CEO of Whitbread, a multinational hotel sector, as president. Already the Football Association (Fa) boasts a president, Debbie Hewitt, appointed in June 2021 and in turn the first woman to cover that position in over 125 years of history.

Brittain will take over at the beginning of 2023 of Peter McCormick, who has been acting president since last January following the resignation of Gary Hoffman due to the hostile reaction of clubs to the acquisition of Newcastle by a Saudi public investment fund. “I have been a football fan since childhood and I am absolutely delighted to be named President of the Premier League,” said the next # 1. “Football is of enormous importance, it is loved by so many people around the world and it can have a huge positive impact on communities. It will be a real privilege to be able to help develop plans for the future and work with everyone involved to ensure their sustainability and long-term success. “

Brittain will chair a council composed of four other members, including the CEO, Richard Masters, who is in charge of the management, direction and development of the English top league.
