(ANSA) – BAKU, 30 JUL – Nobody like Domenico Vicini. The tennis player from San Marino, 50 years and 11 months, played his 100th match in the Davis Cup today, establishing a record of sporting longevity that is unlikely to be improved. Vicini played his 100th game in Davis taking the field, together with a boy who could be his son, the 17-year-old Simone De Luigi, in the doubles match that the San Marino couple lost against Iceland, valid for the fourth division of the competition that awards the ‘Salad bowl’. The representative of the Titan has, however, passed the round and will now play the play off against Azerbaijan.
Vicini made his debut with Sa Marino in the Davis Cup in 1993, “but I don’t know when I will retire – he said today after the match against the Icelanders – because I will play as long as I have the strength. This record is a great achievement for me: it was a long journey, but from the beginning I have traveled a lot and lived many experiences. That’s why I don’t give up “. (HANDLE).
