‘Wagatha Christie’ trial, Mrs Rooney wins over Mrs Vardy

Triumph for Coleen Rooney and humiliation for Rebekah Vardy in the so-called “war of the Wags”, that is the judicial battle between former friends fought in London with no holds barred and in favor of cameras that in recent weeks has monopolized the glamorous-morbid curiosity of TV and tabloid. The trial, sealed by the last hearing on May 19, ended in fact with a sentence in favor of the wife of Wayne Rooney, the all-time goalscorer of the Three Lions: renamed “Wagatha Christie” for having organized a trap in order to discover the deep throat of a series of media gossip unleashed about him; up to the conclusion that it had been the ex-friend Rebekah Miranda, wife of Jamie Vardy, Leicester striker and former teammate of Wayne’s national team, who had blurted out her home affairs with the help of a press agent.
A suspicion, shared on social media, to which Rebekh had responded with a libel complaint that Karen Steyn, a judge of the London high court, rejected for manifest groundlessness. In the ruling, the judge pointed to Caroline Watt, Vardy’s agent, as a “probable” source of the Rooney gossip, leaked to the Sun with Rebekah’s likely blessing. Coleen, flanked by her husband for the entire duration of the judicial match, said she was pleased with the verdict.
