Liverpool win the Community Shield, 3-1 at City

(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 30 – Liverpool won their first trophy of the season by beating Manchester City 3-1 and winning the Community Shield. The match, played in Leicester, confronted the new forwards of the two teams. With the City shirt the Norwegian Erling Haaland (taken from Borussia Dortmund for 60 million euros) and with Liverpool the Uruguayan Darwin Nunez (from Benfica and cost 75 million). The challenge was won by the second, author of the third goal, while Haaland did not shine. For him only a crossbar, hit with a shot a few meters from the door.

Jurgen Klopp’s side went first, on 21 minutes, thanks to Alexander Harnold’s goal. City equalized in the 25th minute of the second half with Julian Alvarez, after a long consultation with the Var over a suspected offside. Seven minutes from time Momo Salah brought Liverpool back on a penalty, whistled for a handball in the area. Having come off the bench, Nunez still managed to make his mark in the 94th minute, deflecting the ball for the final 3-1 behind Ederson Moraes.
