Women’s soccer: 1-0 to Colombia, Brazil wins Copa America

(ANSA) – BUCARAMANGA, JUL 31 – Brazil won the women’s Copa America in football by beating Colombia 1-0 in the final, which played in front of over 20,000 fans in Bucaramanga (north-east of Colombia). Debinha scored the winning goal from the spot in the 39th minute for the Brazilians, who dominated in the continental tournament with six wins in as many games, scoring 20 goals without conceding.

The Canarinhas thus once again affirmed their overwhelming dominance by winning the 8th Copa America in nine editions (only the 2006 one escaped them, with a defeat in the final against Argentina).

Swedish Pia Sundhage, Brazil coach for three years, adds a title to her list which also includes two Olympic gold medals collected at the head of the United States in 2008 and 2012. Having reached the final Brazil and Colombia had qualified both for the 2023 World Cup, scheduled in Australia and New Zealand, and for the 2024 Paris Games. (ANSA).
