Athletics: 101 blues for Europeans, Jacobs and Tamberi sub judice

(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 03 – The technical director Antonio La Torre announced the composition of the blue team that will participate in the European Athletics Championships in Munich (Germany) scheduled from Monday 15 to Sunday 21 August. The team will consist of 101 athletes (54 men, 47 women), the largest number ever for Italy in the continental review, now in its twenty-fifth edition: the previous record of participation dates back to twenty years ago, again in Munich. Bavaria, with 95 called up for the 2002 edition. The group also includes the blue superstars Marcell Jacobs and Gianmarco Tamberi, whose participation, as known, will be evaluated in the coming days.

Among those called up, the names of the Olympic and world champion Massimo Stano stand out, competing in the 20 km walk after the 35 km world title, and Elena Vallortigara, world bronze in the high jump in Eugene. The team also includes the 4×100 Olympic champions Filippo Tortu (200 and relay), Fausto Desalu (200 and relay) and Lorenzo Patta. After the renunciation of the World Championships in Oregon, the Olympic finalists Nadia Battocletti (5000) and Filippo Randazzo (long) are back in the team, in addition to the European bronze in charge of the 10,000 Yeman Crippa, here also engaged on the 5000, and the hedgerow Osama Zoghlami. Also selected the fresh world finalists Andrea Dallavalle and Emmanuel Ihemeje (triple), Sara Fantini (hammer), Valentina Trapletti (20 km walk), together with the Italian neo-record holders Ayomide Folorunso (400hs) and the relay runners Zaynab Dosso, Dalia Kaddari, Anna Bongiorni and Vittoria Fontana (4×100). Among the other blue pawns, the weightlifter Nick Ponzio, the middle-distance runners Gaia Sabbatini and Elena Bellò, the hedgerow Ahmed Abdelwahed, the asist Roberta Bruni, the long-distance runner Larissa Iapichino, Iliass Aouani in the marathon and the gold of Zurich 2014 Daniele Meucci.
