Tamberi comes back and wins, pushed towards Europeans

Returning to the races after the fourth place at the Eugene World Championships, Gianmarco Tamberi won the Gold stage of the Continental Tour, in Szekesfehervar (Hungary). The blue jumped 2.24 at the first attempt, after a clear path at the previous odds of 2.14, 2.18 and 2.21, beating the German Tobias Potye (also 2.24, but at the second attempt) and the world bronze medal Andriy Protsenko (2.18) with whom he had dueled in Oregon for third place.

On the measure of 2.27 both Tamberi and Potye were wrong, three times the German, twice the Marches of the Fiamme Oro, who once certain of the victory also tried the 2.30. But what he needed above all was to find the motivations in view of the European Championships, after a couple of complicated weeks due to Covid and his aftermath, a further obstacle after the discomfort in the left leg that had accompanied the approach to the World Cup. In two days Tamberi will be back on the platform in the Diamond League, at the Louis II stadium in Monte Carlo, where the whole World Cup podium awaits him: gold Mutaz Barshim, silver Woo Sanghyeok, bronze Protsenko. Also in the race at Szekesfehervar Nick Ponzio, who for the fourth consecutive race starting from the world final in Eugene misses the measure of twenty-one meters. The blue weightlifter finished in sixth place.
