(ANSA) – BERLIN, 09 AUGUST – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is in favor of equal pay between the women’s and men’s national football teams. Scholz believes that in the case of national teams this is a “political” choice. He said it today in Frankfurt, at a press conference at the headquarters of the German football federation (Dfb).
Scholz underlined that he had proposed to move in this direction at Dfb and was satisfied that the federation is ready to discuss it. The president of the federation, Bernd Neuendorf, present at the press conference, confirmed that the issue will be addressed, but also said that overall “despite the same activity, the markets are still very different”.
On 31 July, the German players took second place at the European Football Championships, losing the final at Wembley against England, and received a prize of € 30,000 each. For the title victory it would have been € 60,000. For a possible triumph at the European Championships in 2021, the players of the men’s national team would have instead received 400,000 euros each.
