Tennis: Zverev misses the US Open

No Us Open for Alexander Zverev. The American Slam, starting next Monday, loses the number 2 in the ATP world rankings. Still recovering from an ankle injury, the German has forfeited the tournament which starts on 29 August and ends on 11 September). The organizers announced it.
“Alexander Zverev has retired from the US Open,” reads the Twitter account of the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the season. Finalist, then defeated, in Flushing-Meadows against Austrian Dominic Thiem in 2020 and then semifinalist last year, Zverev was injured in the semifinals at Roland-Garros in early June, against Spaniard Rafael Nadal. The 25-year-old German Olympic champion in Tokyo was forced to undergo surgery after breaking three lateral ligaments in his right ankle.
