(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 23 – Technical tests of nornality. After a short ceremony, and 1 ‘of silence for the victims of the war with Russia, the match between Shakhtar Donetsk and Metalist, the teams from Donetsk and Kharkiv, opened the Ukrainian championship.
The match, played on the ground of the Olympic stadium in Kiev and closed to the public for safety reasons, ended 0-0. More matches are scheduled today in the western and safer part of the country, although not completely protected from possible attacks by the Russian army. Each stadium where the game is played was equipped with sirens and air-raid shelters in the immediate vicinity, with the help of Ukrainian army mobile anti-aircraft gun protectors. The referees have been instructed to handle any interruptions. Some matches have already been postponed to a later date for organizational reasons: they are Minaj-Leopoli, Dnipro-Oleksandriya and Inhulets-Dinamo Kiev, all valid for the 1st matchday. Mariupol and Desna, whose territories have been massacred, do not take part in the championship. Premjer-liha was interrupted in February following the outbreak of the war conflict.
