Guest of “Europe 1 Sport” this Thursday, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra returned to the financing of the Paris Olympic Games in 2024 by the French State. The Minister of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games has denied the creation of an Olympic Games tax paid by the French, and this despite galloping inflation.
Paris is preparing to host the 2024 Olympic Games. The capital will host the international competition from July 26 to August 11, 2024. Infrastructure development and construction is in full swing. The Olympic Village and the Aquatic Center are born in Seine-Saint-Denis. This raises the question of funding to accommodate the 200,000 athletes and 100,000 visitors expected, in the midst of galloping inflation.
Amélie Oudéa-Castéra wanted to be reassuring at the microphone of Europe 1, this Thursday. “We must find in the project possible savings or find additional revenue”, admitted the Minister of Sports and the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Europe 1 Sports. “We have always said that the Games finance the Games. So there is no question of creating a new Olympic Games tax.”
Faced with inflation, “compensations to be made”
No new tax for the French, but is the budget definitively sealed? “The budget had been built around an assumption of inflation at 1.4%. When we know that it is around 6% today, there are necessarily compensations to be made.”
Compensation that the State must find in the budget by making “savings” or by “making additional revenue”, details Amélie Oudéa-Castéra.
