“We trust the French authorities 100%”, assures Thomas Bach

An exceptional guest on the program “Europe 1 Sport”, Thomas Bach, the IOC President, expressed his “full confidence” in the French authorities for the organization of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris in 2024, despite the terrible incidents of last May at the Stade de France. “It will be magical,” he says.

At the microphone of Jacques Vendroux and Cyrille de la Morinerie, the IOC President discusses security for the next Olympic and Paralympic Games to be held in Paris in 2024, four months after the terrible excesses that punctuated the final of the League of champions at the Stade de France on May 28. It is in this enclosure that many events must take place.

“We have 100% confidence in the French authorities with regard to security”, assures the German Thomas Bach, optimistic about the good performance of this planetary event.

The French authorities “have drawn the right conclusions”

The IOC President adds that his committee “had a lot of conversations, discussions with all levels of the authorities. A few days after the incidents at the Stade de France, they assured us that they had drawn the right conclusions from this affair”, reports Thomas Bach. Who supports his support for the organizers: “We have full confidence in the French authorities, and the athletes are already delighted to be well received. It will be magical”, concludes the President of the IOC.

Two weeks ago in Europe 1 Sport, the director of the enclosure Alexandra Boutelier returned to the media for the first time on these incidents. On Europe 1, she felt that she did not want to name “guilty”, and said she was ready to organize new sporting events of this scale, in particular a Champions League final. “At some point we will have to find a way to demonstrate that we know how to host this event. The best way to do that is to host it again,” she said.
