As the 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off soon, Al-Bayt Stadium is still buzzing. The last workers have worked on the final details before the venue hosts the meeting between Qatar and Ecuador, as well as no less than 60,000 people.

The World Cup begins Tuesday for the Blues, but from Sunday afternoon for the first match of the competition. On the bill, Qatar and Ecuador who will face each other in a stadium in the middle of the desert. The Al-Bayt stadium in Al-Khor is one of the jewels of this World Cup, yet not sparing in architectural follies.

60,000 seats for nine matches

A few hours before the event, workers are still busy finalizing the final details before the arrival of the 60,000 people who will attend the opening match. Nine matches will take place there, including two for Qatar and a semi-final. The enclosure, as surprising as it may seem given the location, meets the highest ecological standards. At the end of the competition, its upper part will be dismantled and offered to countries lacking infrastructure.

However, there will remain highways, including one with two six lanes, a 32,000-seat stadium, a hotel, a shopping center and a gym. On paper, all this seems excessive, but in the land of camels we assure, hand on heart, that there will be no white elephants.
