Foxes spoil the fun for Manuel Neuer: Berlin victory in Erlangen

Manuel Neuer inevitably attracted attention with his red cap among those dressed in black. But even if it hadn’t been for the “Black Night” at HC Erlangen on Saturday, the national goalkeeper would probably have attracted a lot of attention. His girlfriend Anika Bissel comes from Franconia and plays handball in the second division in Regensburg, her brother Christopher plays for the Erlangen Bundesliga club. For the thousands of spectators in the arena in Nuremberg, the focus was still on handball and thus on the duel between the Franconians and the table leaders from Berlin.

And then another German international played in the foreground. Because after the foxes had problems gaining an advantage in positional play in the early stages, foxes coach Jaron Siewert Paul Drux came on – and he quickly made the difference. In his usual way, the captain threw himself into every little gap and gave the guests’ game the necessary depth.

The number of mistakes decreased, the penetrating power increased and finally the Berliners secured a 30:28 victory. “It wasn’t always nice to watch and it was a very competitive game with a lot of pitches,” Drux summed up, noting the game’s turbulent nature, in which his team stayed calm until the end, but also had periods of weakness from time to time. “Sometimes we got really bogged down. But maybe the rip-off then prevailed,” said the 27-year-old, who, along with goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev, was largely responsible for the Foxes’ two additional points.

By the way, Drux was in conversation with a well-known goalkeeper after the final whistle. Not with Manuel Neuer, but Berlin’s goalkeeper legend and Drux’ long-time companion Petr Stochl and his family took a seat near him. In fox green, of course.
