After the elimination in the Italian Cup, Napoli starts again immediately with high gears. The Azzurri winter champions conquer Arechi 2-0 in the derby with Salernitana and continue the Scudetto race, closing the first leg with 50 points. Nicola after the defeat in Bergamo and the exemption then revoked tries to give more balance to the grenade, fielding the back four for the first time this season. Napoli, without Kvaratskhelia, relies on Lozano in the trident with Oshimen and Elmas. The result is a balanced game.

The ball of the game is always in the hands of the leaders who, however, find it more difficult than usual to penetrate the mesh of the defense of the grenade. Emotions are lacking on the field and it is the Arechi public who ‘light up’ the game with a banner addressed to the property (“An elegant mouth cannot afford to let us be found in the pillory. Take matters into your own hands because all this is a shame. Respect for Salerno”).

The first ring comes on the development of a corner kick: Oshimen anticipates Salernitana’s defense but Ochoa manages to save in two stages. On the other hand, Piatek tries to warm up Meret’s hands, forcing the blue goalkeeper to deflect for a corner. A few minutes later (33′) Oshimen manages to beat Ochoa but the blue’s goal is disallowed for offside. Just when the first half seems destined to end in a draw, Napoli finds the winning play: Anguissa closes the triangle with Mario Rui and from the left he puts in a low cross for Di Lorenzo who hits the ball well and puts it under the crossbar.

The goal cuts off Salernitana’s legs who immediately take the knockout in the second half: Elmas shoots from the edge hitting the left post, Oshimen collects the tap-in and makes it 2-0. It is the early seal to the match which, despite the downpour, still gives some other emotions. Pirola headed very close to scoring; on the other side the Nigerian striker always tries with Ochoa who flies and saves for a corner. The best opportunity for Salernitana comes to Piatek (38′) who hits the inside post with a blow from the edge, deflected by Meret. It is the last ring of a derby that confirms the history of the championship: Napoli continues to run, Salernitana must look behind them to avoid being sucked into the fight for salvation.
