Serie A: Inter-Milan 1-0, Lautaro Martinez decides the derby

Inter Milan 1-0. The Milan derby takes on the Nerazzurri again. A goal from Lautaro Martinez was enough to give Inter success in the derby against Milan, avenging the defeat in the first leg and repeating their mid-January victory in the Italian Super Cup. Inzaghi wins his first Milan derby in the league, outclassing Pioli for large stretches of the match, above all due to a decidedly too defeatist AC Milan team, so much so that he ends the match with no shots on goal and with only 36% of ball possession (24% at interval). The record

Thus the negative moment for Milan continues, which in 2023 only found one victory, last January 4 against Salernitana: from there, five consecutive matches without success, with the lost derby representing the third defeat in a row in the league. On the other hand, however, Inzaghi relaunches his Inter, however keeping them in second position and consolidating his position in the race for the Champions League. Much of the derby was probably decided before the kick-off, looking at the choice of formations. Pioli chooses the 3-5-2 leaving Leao on the bench and confirming the advances of the last few days, with the aim above all of suffering less in the defensive phase. The script of the match was thus clear right from the start, with Inter making the match while the Rossoneri closed up to try to restart. The Nerazzurri started with conviction, so much so that after a few minutes Lautaro Martinez had the ball to give the lead, but Tatarusanu overtook himself with his close left-footed shot by raising his shot for a corner with a nice reflex. Inter pushes hard and Lautaro comes close again to unlocking the result with a header which however ends just wide. The Nerazzurri then protested a contact in the area between Dzeko and Gabbia on which Massa and the Var let it go. Dimarco then also tries directly from a corner, finding an attentive Tatarusanu, while a header by Skriniar ends high. The usual Lautaro Martinez takes care of unlocking the result, who, left undisturbed, heads Inter forward. However, the Nerazzurri advantage does not change the score of the match, because Inzaghi’s men continue to play and keep possession of the ball (even 76% after the first 45′), while Milan limit themselves to defending, with Tatarusanu still called into question directly from a corner, this time from Calhanoglu. In the second half Pioli plays the Brahim Diaz card, switching to a 3-4-1-2 with the Spaniard behind the strikers, but it is not enough to awaken the Rossoneri, so the coach also throws Leao into the fray for an impalpable Origi. However, it is still Lautaro who has the right ball to double, but the Argentine’s right foot is well saved by Tatarusanu. However, Inter began to play with fire, trying to slow down the match too much and somehow reviving Milan, exactly like in the derby a year ago which gave the A to the Rossoneri’s tricolor race. The first ring is from Brahim Diaz, but Onana is attentive. Then it was Giroud who had the ball good for an equalizer, the Frenchman missed the stop and was recovered at the last minute by Acerbi, then coming close to scoring immediately after a free-kick from the edge. Compared to a year ago, however, this time Inter manage to bring the derby home, without suffering excessively in the final minutes. Also because Inzaghi inserts Lukaku, a move that works because he raises the Nerazzurri’s center of gravity. The Belgian also scores but Massa disallows for a foul on Thiaw. And not only that, because Inter also scored with Lautaro, the Argentine however started offside and the Var confirmed the cancellation after a long check. These are the last emotions, because Milan no longer have the strength to attempt the assault: the derby once again takes on a Nerazzurri colour.
