1. FC Union Berlin has earmarked its three newcomers for use in the Europa League. Josip Juranovic, Aissa Laidouni and Jerome Roussillon are in the international squad of Berliners, as Uefa published on its website.
Union meets Ajax Amsterdam in the second round. On February 16, Urs Fischer’s team will travel to Amsterdam, and a week later the Dutch record champions will be guests at the An der Alten Försterei stadium.
On the other hand, Paul Seguin and Timo Baumgartl didn’t make it into the squad. For Baumgartl, who was not available for international business in the summer due to the consequences of his testicular cancer, making the team was “the goal”, as he said in a media round in January.
Also missing are the midfielders Milos Pantovic, Levin Öztunali and Kevin Möhwald as well as goalkeeper Jakob Busk, who were not registered for the international games in the first half of the season. (dpa)
