It was an extreme situation: last Sunday, Chilean open water swimmer Bárbara Hernández entered the icy waters of Antarctica wearing only a bathing suit and without any protective clothing at all. With a water temperature of just 2.2 degrees Celsius, she swam 2.5 kilometers through the waves in Chile Bay. She spent a total of 45 minutes in the water, setting a record for the longest swim in Antarctica – an unimaginable challenge for the body. With each stroke, he threatened to cool down further, lowering the temperature even further.
