Riot at Eintracht Frankfurt against Naples: fan disputes lead to 36 arrests

After violent clashes before and during the Champions League duel between Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt and SSC Naples, 36 people were arrested. After the end of the game or the end of the police measures, however, they were released again, as a police spokesman announced on Wednesday. Some fans were slightly injured in the clashes, it said.

Incidents on Tuesday included around 150 Eintracht fans throwing bottles and stones at minibuses and vehicles carrying Italian fans. However, the majority of those involved fled undetected from the police, as the police spokesman explained.

Striking tools and pyrotechnics were also found in the vehicles of SSC Napoli fans. In addition, there was a fight between the fans of both teams, which the police ended with the use of pepper spray, according to the spokesman.

Eintracht Frankfurt lost the round of 16 first leg in front of their home crowd 0: 2 (0: 1) and is therefore on the verge of being eliminated from the Champions League. The goals for the superior guests from Italy were scored by Victor Osimhen (40′) and Giovanni Di Lorenzo (65′). The 58th minute dismissal of Randal Kolo Muani, who will miss the second leg, rounded off the defeat. “We made a lot of mistakes of our own,” criticized Eintracht coach Oliver Glasner. (dpa)
