(ANSA) – ROME, OCTOBER 30 – Short track Italy shines in the second stage of the World Cup in Nagoya, Japan. On the first day of the finals the Azzurri climbed to the top step of the podium twice with Yuri Confortola in the 1,500 meters and Arianna Fontana winner in the 500, after the second place obtained shortly before in the 1,500 (behind the Dutch Suzanne Schulting).
If the Olympic champion at PyeongChang 2018 was among the favorites in the 500 – she got the better of the Polish Natalia Maliszewska and the Canadian Kim Boutin – Confortola’s success is historic. The blue, on the run since the start and triumphing over the Korean Daeheon Hwang and the Chinese Sun Long, is in fact the first Italian to win an individual World Cup event since 2007, when Nicola Rodigari established himself in the 1,000 meters disputed in Heerenveen.
