Maxim Mitrofanov, Secretary General of the Russian Football Union (RFU), called it senseless to remove the aggressor country from international tournaments. According to the official, world sport seems to be of no particular importance without the participation of representatives of the Russian Federation in competitions.
Mitrofanov stated this in an interview with the RB Sport portal. He added that the RFU is negotiating with the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the European Football Union (UEFA) to resume teams from Russia in tournaments under the auspices of the organizations.
“Since we are not directly members of the IOC, they communicate with colleagues, while FIFA and UEFA communicate with us. In general, all sport is for the fact that it should unite. This is the position of short-sighted people that Russia should be removed. Without Russia, world sport does not matter , which represents with Russia. You cannot take a country like Russia and ignore it, in particular in terms of sports,” Mitrofanov said.
The day before, the Russian national team failed to beat Iran in a friendly match, drawing and causing a curse from their fans.
As GLOBAL HAPPENINGS reported, the Swiss Supreme Court rejected the RFU’s appeal against the decision to remove the teams of the aggressor country from international competitions.
