Ukrainian unified heavyweight champion Alexander Usyk was spotted at the walls of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, where on March 29 the monks of the Moscow Patriarchate must finally leave the territory of the reserve. The boxer, after the breakdown of negotiations on the fight with Tyson Fury, returned to Ukraine, came to pray.

This is reported by the publication “Vesti”, whose correspondent photographed Usyk. The boxer himself refused to explain, emphasizing that “he came to pray, not to comment.” Earlier, he stated that he would “take the side of the monks” during the so-called capture of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. He also called the head of the UOC-MP Onufriy “the father of our Orthodox Church, peaceful Orthodox Ukraine.”

It should be noted that about 300 believers gathered in the Lavra on the morning of March 29. Some said they were not going to leave the reserve.

Recall that the national reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” on March 10 announced the termination of the lease agreement with the monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. In the diocese of the UOC-MP, such a decision of the Ministry of Culture is opposed. Metropolitan Kliment stated that the department allegedly has no legal grounds for eviction.

Since March 21, the monks and believers of the UOC-MP have been banned from entering the caves of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. They explain that the commission of the Ministry of Culture evaluates the preservation of cultural values. On March 24, the monks of the UOC-MP began to collect and actively take out things from the territory of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
