Among those who fired Irpin and Bucha a year ago, as well as those who stood guard at the Kyiv airport, was Oleg Grama, master of sports in sambo. During the hardest year, the athlete defended Ukraine, fighting the Russian invaders in the hottest spots, but on February 18, in the Donetsk region, his life was cut short by an enemy shell.
Oleg was from the village of Novoselitsa, Khmelnitsky region. I have been involved in sports since childhood. He was a pet of the sambo department of the Kyiv Youth Sports School-1, successfully performed at tournaments, received the title of master of sports in combat sambo.
After school, Gramma studied roads at the National Transport University in Kyiv. But having received a diploma, he soon decided to build a military career and in 2013 he took the oath. The athlete served in various units of the National Guard of Ukraine, including a separate special forces unit “Omega”.
From 2014 to 2022, Grama took part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation and the Operation of the Joint Forces of Ukraine in the eastern part of the country. In almost 10 years of service, he received many awards.
After the full-scale invasion of Russia, Captain Grama fought in the Kyiv region – fired Irpen and Bucha, and also guarded the Kyiv airport. Then he performed reconnaissance and assault missions in the Izyum direction, held the defense of Severodonetsk.
Since August, Oleg and his brothers have been relocated to the Donetsk region to the Avdiivka direction. On February 18, 2023, a fighter of the NGU “Omega” special unit began his last battle in the area of the settlement of Novobakhmutovka.
As the brethren recalled, Gramma moved to the aid of the servicemen of the 110th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who were holding back the offensive actions of the enemy. Having got as close as possible to the enemy, the Ukrainian fighter brought his BMP down with an aimed shot from the Javelin ATGM.
Then Oleg entered into close combat with the infantry of the Russians and did everything possible to stop the advance of the invaders. Hearing the roar of the tank, together with his brother, he began to look for the location of enemy equipment in order to destroy it. But he didn’t. A tank shell, exploding near their position, inflicted wounds on the soldier, which turned out to be incompatible with life.
According to the memoirs of his brothers, Oleg always took care of his subordinates, even after being wounded near Severodonetsk, he tried to return to them as soon as possible, sometimes even taking his own health carelessly.
The defender is survived by his parents, wife and eight-year-old daughter.
“He was the soul of the company. He was always for his people, he constantly met with them, communicated. He valued his brothers and friends,” NSU quotes the wife of the deceased hero.
The coach of the defender plans to organize a sambo tournament in summer in honor of the athletes who died in the Russian-Ukrainian war, in particular, to honor the memory of Oleg Grama.
“All the soldiers remain in our hearts, our prayers. They are watching us from the sky. Despite everything, we pray for our brethren, for their return and health. We are always trying to help them. We are waiting for news of the victory from you,” he said. father of the deceased Anatoly.
